Youth in action
Although you must be at least 16 to volunteer on a Habitat construction site or in the Habitat ReStore, there are lots of ways for youth to get actively involved in Habitat’s mission! Here are some ideas:
Sponsor a Yard
After the construction of a house is complete the final step before a homeowner can move in is landscaping. Typically, landscaping costs between $1,000 and $2,000 to complete. As a youth group, you can sponsor the landscaping and raise the funds to pay for the landscaping. By sponsoring the landscaping you also will get to help plant plants and trees, lay sod, spread, mulch, etc.
Volunteer Care Packages
All Habitat homes are built by volunteers who give of their time and skills. You can help us support those volunteers by putting together volunteer care packages.
You can collect packed snacks like granola bars, pretzels, chips, fruit snacks and crackers or drinks (bottled water, Gatorade, etc.). Write thank you notes and decorate snack bags and package everything up for volunteers to enjoy on their work day.
Homeowner Care Packages
When a new homeowner moves into their home you can help to provide additional blessings by putting together a new homeowner care package. It could include things like paper supplies, cleaning supplies, kitchenware and maybe even a gift card for groceries.
Welcome party and decorations
Make a welcome home banner or housewarming card or build a bench or birdhouse to give to a new homeowner when they move into their home. You could also be the host of a home dedication, greeting guests and providing refreshments.
Raise money for Habitat
Fundraiser ideas include bake sales, car washes, church dinners or breakfasts, a special offering … your creativity is the limit!

NOTE: These opportunities are great for youth, but adults can do them too!
